Shelters With A Trainer

Any amount is greatly appreciated!

SWAT
How It Happened

Adam Steele has been a dog trainer for over 10 years. In 2019, Adam was on the Violent Crimes Reduction Initiative Task Force with Detroit PD and the Special Response Team (SRT is a part time department unit that performs duties in a manner that is known as what is generally called SWAT) for the Wayne County Sheriff Department in Detroit.

During his time with the department, Adam saw hundreds of abandoned, mistreated, and neglected dogs. Large numbers of dogs chained up in the middle of winter, with no shelter, and no escape from the bitter freezing temperatures. One night, it seemed that every house his team raided, there were many neglected and abused dogs. The Animal Shelters and Rescues were so full, that there was nothing anyone was able to do. The images of the dogs never left his mind. Eventually, Adam left the department and started his own non-profit, aimed to help shelters manage their dogs and capacity issues. Thus S.W.A.T (Shelters With A Trainer) was born.

Adam is a consultant for many of the downriver Michigan animal shelters and rescues, as well as a certified trainer through Animal Behavior College, who helps foster and volunteer groups efficiently identify problematic behaviors and correct them.

You can often find Adam spending his time teaching seminars for animal shelters and rescue organizations, training shelter dogs, as well as fighting for the dogs that are labeled "unadoptable," and give them another chance at life. Please join us in the fight!
